The final production version of the Aune AR9000 open-back dynamic headphone is officially here, refining the sound and build quality beyond our preliminary trade-show impressions of earlier prototypes. It offers an ergonomic fit that handles larger head sizes effortlessly while looking surprisingly normal on video calls compared to typical audiophile gear.

The weight distribution is balanced, the ear pads are plush with large ear openings, and the cups (thankfully) use standard 3.5 mm connectors. The included modular cable allows quick swapping between single-ended, Pentaconn, and XLR terminations, though the circular XLR adapter lacks a visual orientation notch, making blind plugging a minor annoyance worthy of note.

Acoustically, the AR9000 delivers one of the finest stock bass profiles available on a dynamic driver headphone. It tracks closely to flat downsloped HRTF response, offering punchy, deep sub-bass extension without creating unwanted mud. A subtle 1 kHz bump adds liveliness, while a slightly relaxed 2 kHz to 4 kHz ear-gain region gives the midrange a slightly relaxed, non-fatiguing character that remains forgiving across poorly recorded tracks.

Compared to earlier trade-show units, the production version massages lower-treble peaks and tames excess upper air, only having a gentle mid-treble lift around 6 kHz. This combination of a punchy low end, relaxed midrange, and a clear top end yields a dynamic, engaging listen with exceptionally natural timbre.

When compared against established flagships, the AR9000 straight up outclasses the Sennheiser HD800S in everyday versatility, neutrality, and low-end extension, while offering a far less fatiguing stock profile than the Austrian Audio Composer.
