Audeze has just announced the release of the Maxwell 2, the much anticipated follow-up to the original Maxwell, Audeze's best-selling entry in the gaming headset market.
Among the new offerings from Maxwell 2's are the introduction of the SLAM™ leak-channel (first seen on the LCD-S20) which may help the Maxwell 2 avoid the "planar crinkle" that many users experience when moving around wearing planar-magnetic headphones with closed front volumes.
Additionally, the original Maxwell's headband suspension strap has been replaced with a widened, circle-perforated leather strap on Maxwell 2, which Audeze claims may add more breathability & long-term comfort than the Maxwell's original strap.
Aside from those things, Maxwell 2 seems to be quite similar to the original Maxwell in terms of industrial design except for two things:
- Weight: The Maxwell 2 is rated by Audeze for a weight of 560g, which is 70g more than Audeze has listed for the original Maxwell.
- Faceplate swapping: Audeze is also teasing the future capability for faceplate-swapping the outer-facing part of the earcup.
Feature-wise, the Maxwell 2 seems to also have quite a bit of parity with the original Maxwell, aside from one new addition: Auracast support.
Otherwise, Maxwell 2 sports a similar 10-band graphic EQ capability/preset functionality, a similar detachable FILTER™-powered Noise Cancelling microphone, a similar 2.4GHz wireless dongle for low-latency wireless audio, and seemingly the exact same battery spec as was present on the original Maxwell.
