Sound was great with USB, but connecting optical introduced a lot of popping. Thought it might just be my optical cable, but it works just fine with another dac. Ultimately replaced this with an RME ADI-2 and will use the Topping as backup/not with my main setup.
Received as a Christmas gift, it's never worked. Initially it would come on and show bitrate but every few seconds it would distort the audio. I updated my system BIOS, Drivers and tried to install the driver for the device. The install works but sees no devices, likely because my connection is optical.
Seriously disappointed thus far.

UPDATE:
After working with Alan, he helped me diagnose the problem, troubleshot the problem, and in the end arranged for an RMA.
I'm happy to report that the device functions as expected and I'm very satisfied with the support Alan provided. Headphones.com got it right.
I'm still dissapointed in Topping for the original unit failing overnight but alas, stuff happens.
The sound staging that this amp/dac allows is amazing.
I bought the Topping DX3 Pro+ to use with my recently acquired Sennheiser HD600. The Topping DX3 Pro+ works as expected. It makes the headphones sound a bit louder but a bit clearer as well. The controls are quite easy to work with and its small size fits well on my crowded desk. I would recommend the Topping DX3 Pro+ to anyone who wants to get a small but powerful amp and dac combo at an affordable price.
Wanted to buy a new DAC to replace my FiiO E17K as I felt it wasn’t making my music sound ideal. I’ve heard great things about the Topping DX3 Pro+ and since I already had an amp, I didn’t have to worry about pushing my headphones properly.
My expectations were high and they were blown away by this thing. Everything sounds substantially, exponentially better. I’m hearing details in songs I’ve never heard before despite listening to these songs for decades.
$200 for this thing is an absolute steal.
Plug headphone in and right side doesn't work doesn't have firm grip on the 3.5 . If I pull out a bit both sides play but not fully powered. I can tell it in the jack. Can we exchange please. THANKS DON
Excellent Amp/DAC. First time to listen to music with audiophile headphones (Hifiman Sundara) with a combo amps/DAC. The experience has been wonderful. Was concerned about the amp’s power but that has not been a problem at all. Highly recommend, especially for the price.
The Topping Dx3 pro+ is a budget-friendly option that offers incredible sound quality. It has a wide range of features, including a powerful amplifier, high-resolution audio support, and a variety of digital and analog input options. The build quality is solid and the design is sleek. Overall, the Topping Dx3 pro+ is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a high-quality audio experience at an affordable price.
This is my first quality, desktop DAC so please take this with a grain of salt.
I love this. I listened with my Focal Elegia and at first, I looked around to turn off my speakers. Then I realized the music was coming from the headphones. The soundspace feels so much more realized. A small inclusion has expanded my headphone listening quality so much. The Bluetooth was then same when I hooked it up to my speakers. I have no regrets, and the pricing felt appropriate for another step up the audiophile stairs without risking too large an investment. If you want to dip your toes in, I highly recommend this DAC.
Buy a dx3 pro+ & But it from headphones.com
Hi, have a desktop monolith thx dac/amp and a mojo in my study. Wanted a plug in one unit dac/amp to use with my drop dan clark aeon closed in other rooms of the house. Listened to the combo(dx3&aeon closed) yesterday. To my ears the listening pleasure rivals the same headphones on my $500 thx dac/amp. Would not hesitate to purchase again or recommend especially for $169( a steal!). 2nd time purchasing from Headphones.com(hifiman xs). Both experiences were perfect.
Very impressed with the Topping unit. Nice clarity and tight bass with DAC setting engaged feeding various steaming service to pre-amp . Like the retro orange display. Did not like the origami folded instruction manual with 1 point font. This is an economical and worthwhile purchase. Apart from having to exercise the 3.5mm jack couple times to get right channel to work with headphones there's been no other issues. Note that the supplied USB cable is male USB 2.0 A -> male USB 2.0 B. If your source is Type C USB out (like me) adapter is available at Amazon and Best Buy as well. $10 -> 12 dollars depending on local tax.
I hope my comments are helpful to anyone looking to buy the DX3 Pro+. First, I’ll say that I am very happy with the product as it provides many input options and produces very clear and low noise audio. It has plenty of juice to drive my high impedance HiFiman headphones. I also own the Schiit Modi 3+ and Magni Heresy 3 DAC/Amp stack and have done an A/B comparison. IMO, the Schiit comes out the winner with a clearer sound, the fact that the DAC/amp is one unit, and the lower price tag (got a discount on mine). I now use it as my daily driver.
That out of the way, I wanted to also share my negative experience with it. I sent back my first unit for replacement due to the optical audio input producing a stuttering, jittering sound every second - no matter the optical audio source. The second unit I received also had the same issue. I reached out the headphones.com customer service who was very responsive and helpful. They provided me with a contact at Topping, who I reached out to for help. They responded soon thereafter and provided me with a new firmware not yet posted on their website (v1.24). After installing it, I’m happy to report that it got rid of the optical audio issue! Now that the problem is out of the way, I it has worked wonderfully. Just a shame this issue was not caught before releasing the product.
Bluetooth is wide open for anyone to connect even in automatic standby mode and no matter which input is selected. There is no pin or approval needed on the device side in order to connect. If a device is already connected you aren't able to connect either. Making this even worse, the device will wake up automatically from standby and switch to Bluetooth input if a new device pairs and connects. It's just a matter of time until the neighbors connect and start playing who knows what at 2AM. Topping needs to disable pairing/advertising by default and let the user put it into timed pairing mode (double press the knob button while in BT input is selected?). After 30 or 60 seconds pairing mode should turn off!
I think it sounds good and delivers clean power, but to be honest, I really can’t tell a difference in sound quality over the Apple Dongle other than having a much higher headroom to go louder. But if you are looking for an all-in-one dac/amp with Bluetooth, this is a very competitive option at the $200 price point. I thought about getting the ifi zen dac v2, but I think the DC3 Pro+ offers better value especially since ifi raised its price.
Very pleasantly surprised with this little unit. More than enough power for most cans, a full setup in 1 tiny box. My only complaint is the headphone output is only 3.5mm. This is very silly, but nothing a little adapter can't solve.
I have had several other setups, usually more than double the price of this, but this is my favorite so far. $200 and it satisfies everything most people will ever need for their headphones.
