Connectivity
More information
Connectivity refers to the method in which the headphones connect to the audio source. Headphones can be either wired or wireless.
"The HiFiMAN Ananda has one of the most ideal frequency response curves for a wide range of music, coupled with excellent detail retrieval, speed, and imaging. Bass extends all the way into the sub-bass without any drop-off. It's tight, well-controlled, and doesn't drown out any of the rest of the frequency response. Mids are present, but not elevated, providing exceptional detail retrieval. In particular, 3-5khz isn't as noticeably dipped as is common with many other headphones, and this means piano tones, acoustic guitars, and female vocals come through with a unique clarity that isn't overshadowed by other parts of the mix. Treble is also handled exceptionally well without any peaks causing problems throughout the consonant range around 8.5khz. While the frequency response elevates to be moderately counter-clockwise tilted, it's still focused and non-fatiguing."

The HiFiMAN Ananda is here! First announced at the Munich High-End show in May of 2018, the Ananda represents a shift for HifiMAN. The HiFiMAN Ananda Planar Magnetic Headphones have low distortion and high sensitivity making them so easy to drive that you could even drive them from your phone!
The lightweight planar drivers feature thin, responsive diaphragms that produce a wide frequency response of 8 Hz to 55 kHz. Asymmetrical earcups and a hybrid headband design ensure comfortable wearing and balanced weight distribution. The supplied 3.5mm headphone cable is detachable for safe storage and transport, and a 6.35mm cable is included to allow compatible connectivity with audio interfaces and high-end headphone amps.
Key Features
Low impedance and high sensitivity allow the Ananda to be a suitable companion for mobile devices
At between 1 to 2 microns thick, the NsD (NEO supernano diaphragm) is 80% thinner than previous designs resulting in a faster more detailed response without compromising musicality
Each earcup features thick padding, pleather covering, and a robust 3.5mm female connector
The detachable 4.9' cable utilizes gold-plated 3.5mm connectors for maximum conductivity
Asymmetrical earcups follow the natural shape of the human ear
The headband is constructed of metal to maintain durability and incorporates a weight-dispersing strap for long-lasting comfort
Our take on the Ananda is that it has fairly neutral frequency response that's ever so slightly counter-clockwise tilted (brighter). The Ananda emphasizes clarity and detail but never gets harsh or sibilant, and simultaneously has well-known planar bass extension with minimal distortion for lower frequencies. The Ananda has a mid-sized stage that's presented more in front of the listener than laterally to the sides, and image distinction and instrument separation are both superb.

Sensitivity
More information
Headphone sensitivity measures how loud a pair of headphones will be at a given signal strength. Headphones with higher sensitivity ratings will produce louder sounds than headphones with lower sensitivity ratings. It is measured in dB SPL (decibels of sound pressure level) per unit of power (typically 1 milliWatt) or sometimes unit of voltage (typically 1 Volt) from the source at a frequency of 1 kHz.
103 dB
Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)
More information
When driving headphones at high volumes, it is possible for the diaphragm (the ‘speaker’ inside the headphones) to be unable to move fast enough. This leads to distortion, manifesting itself as crackling, popping or the alteration of musical notes. Most headphones will fall below 1% THD.
Frequency Response
More information
Headphone frequency response refers to the frequency-specific sensitivity of the output. Frequency responses show the range that headphones are capable of reproducing—a graph shows which frequencies are accentuated over others. The ideal range covers the audible sound range of 20 Hz – 20 kHz.

The Hifiman Ananda comes with 1-year limited warranty.
Does the Hifiman Ananda require a headphone amplifier?
No. Hifiman specifically made the Hifiman Ananda to be extremely easy to drive and you can run them straight from your computer or your phone. However, for the optimal listening experience, we do recommend an amplifier. Something as simple as the Topping L50 will work great.

Although I highly respect HeadphonesDotCom and love their reviews and have watched hundreds of their full videos, I am sadly quite disappointed. After weeks of waiting for my friend to receive the package from the States and bring it to Turkey for me (Box stayed untouched and closed until I opened its sealed tape), it came with no 3 meter cable.
The reason why such an issue is disappointing is because that very 3 meter cable, which is promised on the website to be included in the box, is that is costs around 100$ in Turkey, and I really needed it for my new mixes.
Still, thank you for your service and guidance.
Regards,
Edit: before throwing the box away, I stripped it open and made sure to check everywhere. Still nothing, and worse than that is the price of these cables in Turkey..
The Anandas are my first Planar headphone, I’ve been listening to Massdrop HD6XX for a couple of years, and I love their midrange. I often thought that if only the HD6XX didn’t roll off so much down low, it would be amazing. With the bass extension that the Anandas have, I feel like they’re giving me what I was looking for.
I thought that the design of the earmuffs was very large for over ear headphones. I also wanted to see if I would like the open ear aspect but I sadly did not like the open ear part of the headphones. And the sound quality seem fine but the audio was very quite for what I expected.
I use it primarily to listen to podcasts and, in this regard, this pair of headphones is very good as compared to what I had in the past. The voices of the podcasters sound natural and precise. They appear to be talking right in front of me.
Ananda Stealth.
New lower price.
I think they are now appropriately priced.
They sound as most of the reviewers described.
I have two issues with them.
Their sound, which is slightly warm to neutral on Chord Mojo2/Hugo2, does not seem to inspire personal engagement for me.
I have a pair of sonically inferior Sony 7506 that give me a sense of comfort and well being with the Mojo2.
The Ananda Stealth are, a big step superior, in sound quality to my current pair of headphones, but perhaps not warm enough.
Their earcup size, and shape would have been fairly comfortable for me but the cup shape aggravates a jaw hinge injury caused by a dentist....so no fault of the product.
I like them, but they are not suited for me.
I will be keeping them, but cannot use them for extended listening sessions.
I have a set of the original Hifiman Ananda that is outstanding just maybe a little on the heavy side but well worth the weight but when the stealth magnets came out I had to try them out They sound just like the originals but much lighter. So now I have a set up stairs as well as in the basement.
The product itself is very good, especially at the sale price. Not sure if I would be as satisfied if it was at its original price. It wasn't delivered with a manual. Packaging was basic cardboard with minimal product information. Sound is a bit above satisfactory for the price, waiting to see if there's any improvement over time. May update this review in the future.
The sound is very good. Bass, midrange and highs are extremely coherent. The only negative I have is the comfort.
It needs more swivel. When putting it on and taking off, it just barely fits because of the size of the head strap.
I've looked around alot for an excellent set of headphones and since I already have a set of magnapan speakers that I love, these were just what I was looking for. I can't wait to get them broken in. They sound great just not the highs I was expecting but still sound great and with a little more usage they will be exceptional.
Headphones sound good once you break them in, but mine already have a short in either the cable or connector on right side. I've had them less than a year and they're already having problems. At this price, shouldn't have any for years.
Before purchasing the Anandas I was rocking the old HE-400is from Hifiman. I absolutely loved using the HE-400is however, the Anandas was the upgrade I have been looking for. If you are in the same boat I was and want to upgrade your pair of cans the Anandas could very well be you next pair of headphones. Everything from the soundstage to the imaging is vastly improved on the Anandas. Right out of the box these headphones exceeded my expectations on what a headphone could sound like. The one thing I would say needs improvement is the occasional sibilance they produce with some tracks. The treble on some songs can be rather hissy especially when you have your volume turned up high. This is not a deal breaker for me but I can see it might be for some. Overall the Anandas are a great headphone and I think are perfectly priced at $700.
Upgraded from Sundara. Ananda is just what I was hoping it would be. Sundara sounded great but a bit too intimate for me. I felt like my head was on the floor right in front of the drum kit. The Ananda moves me back to the third row and it is HUGE soundstage ! I can hear the reverb bouncing of the walls. More resolving, more comfortable, wider and deeper soundstage. Started with the HE400SE(sounded great for the money), my neighbor freaked out over the sound, so I gifted it to him with a small headphone amplifier. He loves it. Replaced it with the Sundara, it was better, bigger, more resolve, but like I say, a bit too up close for me. I wanted more ... Ananda fit the bill very well, still breaking them in. Ananda Stealth is more refined, it's in a different class actually and the large cups fit my head just fine, very comfortable, generous, relaxing to wear. My ears would touch bottom and top of Sundara cups. It was ok but I felt a bit cramped. Using Anandas with a Bifrost 2/64 DAC ( USB from PC, Qobuz), Lokius EQ, and Jotunheim 2 AMP ... over a Corpse cable Gravedigger pure copper headphone cable. Running full balanced over WBC Mogami XLR interconnects. Custom install on the side of the couch with quiet active cooling on the amp to compensate for lack of convection due to vertical mount.
Only have about 10 hrs listening on my new Ananda but wow! I love how pianos sound through these! (Everything really, very detailed and smooth sounding) Looking forward to the promised improvements as they get burned in. Listening to them fed by an A&K SR25 MKII with the included 3.5 TRS cable. Music files are mostly Qobuz down loads from cd quality to 24/192. 4.4 balanced should be here tomorrow. Excited to hear any difference. Maybe balanced cable wont help till the headphones are burned in, don’t know but want the peace of mind that the Anandas are being fed with the best signal I can give them. Very pleased so far. Build quality of the Ananda seems very good, especially compared to the Bose AE2 that they are replacing. (Probably not a fair comparison 😬)
This headphone has been my first foray into the world of hifi headphones, and it hasn't disappointed! The ear cups are large and need some getting used to, but it only adds to the spacious and immersive sound.
i probably saw a ad and thought a good way to get fidelity was with a good set of headphones and started the research and that took a week or so checked my fiances and read everything twice i thought your designs of shipping were very up standing and every thing is at ten in my book thanks
a little big on my head just slipped in a foam pad and fit is perfect. So far these are my go to headphones, other pair are Sivga Pll. Very good soundstage, run it with a Douk P1 and Xd05
out of my computer, Asus desktop. I have owned Monolith m1060,Meze Classic 99, Aeon open back by dan clark and yes I have a pair of Pioneer SE405 that still sound great, I was shocked
when I pulled them out of storage and checked them out.
Past Experience
I Figure first I should establish my previous experience within headphones and audio. I daily used (and may still due to loud family) Meze 99 Classic, and as much of a meme as they are, they truly are the most comfortable headphone i have ever worn and suit my needs quite nicely. I also use Drop Pandas extremely frequently, pretty much every time I get up from my computer I put them on. These 2 headphones are my main source of reference however I have owned several other headphones over the years, I currently also own HD560S, Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk, Tin Hifi T2, Koss KSC75 and KPH30i, as well as a pair of SHP9600 that I bought for memes. In the past I have also owned Sony Z7M2, HE-4xx, HD6xx, Various Beyars, and some KZ IEMs. As far as source gear goes, I have a topping L30 E30 stack, and it works.
Expected
To start the review I’m just going to list off some things that were expected to end up being true. The Ananda are just so much more resolving than my 2 other most used headphones. It's almost hilarious, the level of detail retrieval of Ananda is so far beyond what I have experienced in the past I don’t even want to spend much time on the comparison, it wins. Other technicals also just blow away everything else I have heard in the past, Soundstage, Imaging, Dynamics, it just kills everything else. Tuning is what I expected, in that it’s nothing compared to what I usually listen to, but I'll talk about that more later in the review.
Unexpected
Now for something I didn’t expect, Music to sound worse! I’m not sure if it’s due to the lack of detail retrieval or if the Meze’s just sound more compressed, but on the Meze’s everything sounds pretty good. On the Ananda most music sounds fucking phenominal, However sometimes i listen to a song that sounds “fine” on the Meze, and on ananda it just doesn’t sound right. I feel this is likely due to my Strange music tastes with some soundtracks just not being made well, but it’s something I notice on an almost regular basis with these. Sometimes it sounds like there is dead space where there shouldn’t be, or there is noise where there shouldn’t be. Regardless clickbait aside, most songs (and I'm talking about 95%) sound so good I find myself pushing through the noise from my household and listening to the Ananda anyway. Something else I didn’t expect was that despite the Ananda having less bass, I found myself enjoying EDM far more than I used to, likely because the bass is so much better than the meze despite having far less.
Tuning
As far as tuning goes, I do wish it was warmer. It may be from driving headphones that push so far past warm that I have become used to it, but I find that the cellos I enjoy in some songs are a bit less there than on the Meze, which is a shame. I don’t know if after I use these more I will find myself hating the bassier tuning, but we will find out as time pushes on. The rest of the frequency response is basically perfect and I have no issues, no spikes in the treble that my ears can detect, and if one didn’t want so much lower mids I can imagine this headphone being near endgame in terms of frequency response.
Build and comfort
Ananda feels mostly well built, as far as I can tell it’s all plastic, but not cheap plastic that’s going to fall apart. Comfort is not what I wish it was, but I'm comparing it to a headphone that I specifically chose for it’s comfort. Despite being made out of plastic it is heavier than the Meze, and I can tell. It both feels like it Weighs more on top of my head, and clamps harder than the Meze, making it not nearly as comfortable, however it’s more than comfortable enough for multiple hour listening sessions. One issue I do have here is the Stock Cable that comes with it. It's ridiculously long for my needs (tho no focal monster) and feels really bad. The stock cable that came with my Meze 2 years ago feels nicer and is what I ended up using instead.
Some Last Closing Thoughts
Some last closing thoughts I figured worth mentioning for those interested enough to read all this garbage. I listen to mostly video game soundtracks, Gareth Coker is an absolute machine and everything he puts out is god tier, so imagine that for like 80% of my song selection. I also listen at extremely low volumes. I don’t know if this has any effect on the headphone, but this is literally the first time my amp has made it out of Low Gain and even on medium gain it never makes it past maybe 5% on the knob (I could probably keep it on low and move it to like 20%). In Conclusion this headphone is insane, easily the best headphone I have ever owned, however it does tell me that my next step is probably somewhere a bit warmer. My end game may indeed be Meze Empyreans or ZMF Verite.
Getting this headphone along with the iFi ZEN DAC allowed me to experience music so much better than I had before. Every time I listen to a piece of music that I was used to, I notice a new detail that wasn't able to be revealed by my old gaming headphones. I highly recommend these.
My first HiFiMAN was the HE-400's that I found underwhelming. Hard to drive and mediocre sound. So when I read the reviews I still ordered them from Amazon thus easy to return. However I found them to be the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. Easy to drive and comfortable. All the great promise of planar headphones and since the price had gone down $300, I was a very happy customer. If you've got the scratch, I can't see anyone regretting this purchasing these headphones. I'm driving them just fine with a Schiit Mangi 3+. Some might question using a $99 amp and I do intend to upgrade. But for now they continue to amaze. Highly recommended!
Don't have the privilege to audition any headphones anymore. Buy online and hope for the best. Had HE400's. First non-dynamic 'phones. Heavy not that impressed. Dug out my old AKG K702's and threw the 400's in the closet. So I did my research and the Anandas seemed to be the best under a grand model out. Right out of the box they blew me away. I knew I'd found some special headphones. After 100 hours of brown noise tracks (Ayre IBE disc. Best $20 you'll ever spend.) I started with my go to tracks . Dark Side remaster, Steely Dan, Supertramp, The Who, etc. These are the best sounding headphones I've ever heard, much less owned. My old Headroom Micro Amp has some serious power and these were about the same as the AKG's. Lot more efficient than the HE400's. Cable has quality connectors, but outer jacket is flimsy so it's easy to kink them which is not good. Can't find any cables for under $450 and that's over half of what I bought them for! Probably worth it, but not now. If you've got the scratch and want something that you'll have for a long time and enjoy, I can't see anyone not liking these. Get 'em.
First off, what great customer service from headphones.com. Thank you for that! I am not a well versed headphone expert, I just know what I like. These Anandas are so comfortable to wear and sound so good. Between songs and in songs where there might be a second or two of silence, I hear absolutely nothing. The sound is so clean and vibrant. I completely lose myself in the music while listening. Very happy I made this purchase.
The Ananda's have been amazing so far as an upgrade to my HE-400i. Only minor complaints would be comfort and the cables. The headband is sitting pretty hard on the top of my head forcing me to move it around slightly every so often. I think i'm slowly getting used to it and the band itself might just be getting more comfortable as I break it in. The cable that I have been using is no good. With every movement I make, I can hear the wires scraping around near where it terminates into the male end going into the headphones.

Gear I use (so you have an idea how the sound might be affected)
-RME ADI 2 DAC
-Questyle CMA600i
-Mcchanson Tube Amp (local Sydney guy)
These are to me, Sennheiser HD800s for the budget conscious.
Very very very good soundstage (only slightly better I have heard are HD800s).
Being a Planar, these sound laid back, nice but are very well balanced.
I own both of Ananda and Focal Clear, and honestly I goto Ananda over Clears if I want to listen to songs which are best experienced with a large soundstage.
ONE thing that stood out for me for , these, have AMAZING imaging.
They pair exceptionally well with my CMA600i.
They are low impedance but they 100% need an amp to shine.
Sound is very balanced, musical and have quite tight bass, which never intrudes in mids and soundstage is awesome with imaging next to none.
Now, where i live (Australia) these are half the price of HD800s. After continually A-B test for 30 mins , I chose this over HD800s coz they provide absolute phenomenal value.
But if money is no issue, go for HD800s coz that provides that 10% extra . To me it wasnt worth twice the price.
Build feels a but fragile (Hifimans are known for it) but the retailer I purchased from re-assured me , if anything goes wrong even in the first 3 years, come back and they will take care.
As always, Look at 'value'. Price all of us can manage, if the item presents value to us, its money well spent.
This , to me presents one of the best value headphones in the market today.

Smooth & very clean! Having outlined my criteria to Taron, he recommended the Hi-fi Ananda’s and, of course, he was spot on. Have been using B&W P5’s (on ear) for a number of years, I realized shortly after buying a new IPhone, it was time to make a change. Believe me, the P5’s are great but thought an over the ear headphone would be quieter and more comfortable to wear...I did achieve that objective. Next level objective is to take a load off my IPhone and will be auditioning a Chord Mojo DAC and amp. The portability appeals to me and hope to give it a try shortly.
Thank you headphones.com. Its not easy trusting an online Audio company...your return policy and product knowledge made me a believer.

Hifiman Ananda 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First to give you an idea of the other headphones I listen to, Focal Elear and Sennheiser 6XX. So this is my initial impression of these headphones.
Taron guided me with this purchase and his service and guidance were spot on as usual. My favorite place to shop for headphones.
What I like:
Improved soundstage over all the headphones I own so far. Wider, larger, deeper, sounds beautiful. Soundstage is the best of all the headphones I own, as is detail retrieval, tone, and overall comfort. I haven’t even touched the Schiit Loki For tone control with these headphones as their tone has been just right on for me for everything I have listened to so far which spans almost every genre of music. They are lightweight and fit well on my medium sized head. They 100% need proper amplification so don’t expect these to sound great from your phone or IPad, the previous reviewer faulted them for this however these are Large Planar headphones and you can not expect them to sound great without proper amplification. Give them power and you will be greatly rewarded with quality sound! They seem to pair beautifully with the SMSL THX amp and SU8V2 Dac. The large planar headphones sound great across the board including the low end which is not as much punch as the ELEAR’s but clean, accurate, and a pleasure to listen to. Mid’s are beautiful and done very nicely, the Treble isn’t really ever too bright for my ears with detail for days! Honestly so far these are my favorite headphones I have ever listened to. The sale price right now is amazing from headphones.com If you haven’t heard these headphones, you might be missing out. I highly recommend these headphones if you can get them at the sale price they are well worth it!
If you are a bass head or like lots of bass look at my other pair the Focal Elear instead as you will get better low end punch from those especially for EDM or Hip Hop. Personally I think get them both if you can as they compliment each other quite nicely for different Genres of music.
What I don’t like:
The cables from the manufacture they come with don’t seem that great from a build quality perspective. No noticeable audible issue with the cables however, just kind of weird clear cheap looking cables. The headphones overall don’t have the same level of build quality as the Focal Elear’s do but what they don’t have in build quality they make up for in sound quality.
To wrap it up, these are worth a listen. If you enjoy the sound of planar headphones, lightweight comfort and a detailed/wider soundstage than most headphones in their price range, these are a great option. Many have said they are the Hifiman version of a Focal Clear with of course their own sound signature. There is a great review on this website, I recommend reading it as it does a great job describing these headphones.

I expected more of a open stage smoother mids, not the case with these.
The bass seems muddy and distorted at times. Being such a low impedance headphones you would think they would work great with an iPhone or iPad , not the case. Even with my headphone amp I have to turn up the volume a lot. Don’t get me wrong I really don’t listen to loud music I’m mor a Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall fan.
Very comfortable headphones well designed but very cheap cable.
Need to listen more Not happy at this time.
