The Lewitt LW6 is a $699 wireless closed-back studio monitoring headphone developed in Vienna and tuned in part by acoustics engineer, friend of us all, Konstantin Davy, widely known in the audio community as Oratory1990.
Designed to tackle the longstanding limitations of wireless monitoring in professional recording environments, the LW6's standout feature is that it delivers uncompressed 48 kHz audio with an ultra-low latency of roughly 6.2 milliseconds.
This latency profile makes it practically indistinguishable from a wired connection, allowing vocalists, drummers, and instrumentalists to monitor their performance in real time without the disruptive delay typical of Bluetooth or standard 2.4 GHz wireless protocols.
Beyond its wireless transmission capabilities, the LW6 stands out for its unique acoustic design and tuning philosophy. Rather than optimizing the headphone exclusively for industry-standard test fixtures like GRAS or Brüel & Kjaer rigs, the engineering team tuned the LW6 using in-ear microphones on actual human heads. Closed-back, high acoustic impedance headphones often exhibit significant real-ear leakage and acoustic impedance differences which causes their results to diverge across human subjects, and yes, also means the standards-compliant fixtures also don't really represent what people will actually hear.
As a result, the LW6 shows a very elevated bass response and a dip around 3 kHz when measured on a standard fixture, whereas real-head measurements demonstrate a remarkably smooth, target-compliant frequency response across human ears.
To ensure structural seal consistency across different facial structures, the LW6 incorporates asymmetric viscoelastic foam earpads contoured specifically to fit the human jawline. These are, without a doubt, some of the most comfortable earcups you'll ever find on a closed back headphone, and that goes double for wireless ones.
Since this project was built from the ground up with the knowledge of interpersonal variation, Lewitt were keenly aware that personalized adjustments would still be necessary. For that reason, the headphone includes built-in onboard DSP featuring a five-band fully parametric EQ alongside quick presets for high-frequency expansion.
While traditional measurements may look unconventional due to test rig seal disparities, our listening has confirmed that the LW6 provides an exceptionally balanced, trustworthy sound profile tailored for critical monitoring, and for those who don't get quite what they're looking for sonically, the ability to create PEQ presets and store them on the device itself means that for anyone looking for studio headphones, this is probably the best one currently available.
