Driver type
More information
Speakers and headphones use a device called a 'driver' to create sound. Different types of drivers have different strengths and weaknesses, but can all produce great sound. Common varieties include dynamic, planar magnetic, and electrostatic.

Description
The THIEAUDIO HYPE 4 MKII is a complete redesign of the original HYPE 4, built to push both tonal balance and technical performance further. It combines THIEAUDIO’s second-generation IMPACT2 dual dynamic subwoofer system with a new Knowles balanced armature array, a CNC-machined aluminum shell, and a modular cable system that makes it easy to use with a wide range of sources.
This is not a minor refresh. The HYPE 4 MKII reworks the driver platform, crossover design, and physical construction to deliver cleaner bass, stronger imaging, more refined treble, and a more mature overall tuning than its predecessor.
Why the THIEAUDIO HYPE 4 MKII Stands Out
- Complete redesign of the original HYPE 4
- 2DD + 4BA hybrid driver configuration with new Knowles balanced armature drivers
- Gen 2 IMPACT2 subwoofer system shared with the Monarch MKIV
- Studio-neutral meets musical tuning with strong sub-bass and a warm, clean midrange
- CNC-machined aluminum shell with hand-finished anodized construction
- Premium modular cable included with 4.4 mm balanced and 3.5 mm unbalanced plugs
HYPE 4 MKII vs HYPE 4
The biggest story with the HYPE 4 MKII is that it is not just a retune. THIEAUDIO rebuilt it from the ground up with a new driver lineup, an updated version of the IMPACT2 bass system, and a new engineering approach. That matters because it positions the MKII as a real step forward rather than a cosmetic update.
Compared to the original HYPE 4, the MKII is designed to deliver better tonal accuracy, stronger clarity, and a more immersive soundstage. THIEAUDIO also moved to a more premium aluminum construction and a revised internal design built around a 4-way crossover and 4-tube system. If you liked the idea of the original HYPE 4 but wanted something more refined, the MKII is clearly the more ambitious version.
Gen 2 IMPACT2 Bass System
The HYPE 4 MKII uses the second-generation IMPACT2 subwoofer system, the same bass platform THIEAUDIO also uses in the Monarch MKIV. It pairs two 8 mm composite diaphragm dynamic drivers with THIEAUDIO’s pneumatic acoustic chamber to produce deep, focused sub-bass while keeping the rest of the frequency range cleaner and more controlled.
THIEAUDIO says the bass shelf reaches 9 dB, but the sharper cutoff at 150 Hz helps keep that power from spilling too far into the mids. In practice, that gives you satisfying low-end punch without turning the whole presentation thick or bloated.
New Knowles Driver Array
The balanced armature section has been rebuilt around imported Knowles drivers. Two Knowles RAB series drivers handle the low-midrange, a separate ED-33465 driver covers the mid-treble region, and a Knowles RAD-33518 ultra-tweeter is positioned in the nozzle to improve upper treble extension.
The point of that layout is not just more output. It is there to improve midrange depth, imaging, and overall tonal precision. THIEAUDIO is aiming for a presentation that sounds more layered and spacious while keeping the midrange natural and well organized.
Tuning That Balances Neutrality and Enjoyment
The HYPE 4 MKII is tuned to sit between a studio-monitor style presentation and a more musical, easy-to-enjoy sound. Bass is strong and authoritative, but the low-end control keeps it from clouding the rest of the mix. The midrange has extra warmth and body around 400 Hz, which helps vocals and instruments sound fuller without pushing the overall sound into something muddy.
Treble is tuned for detail and air, but with a smoother character than many aggressively bright hybrids. THIEAUDIO describes the treble behavior as having a delayed decay, which is their way of aiming for strong detail retrieval and upper-end space without introducing harshness. The result is a tuning that gives you clarity and excitement without sounding sharp or overcooked.
Engineering and Build Quality
The HYPE 4 MKII uses a 4-way crossover design with a 4-tube system and 7 separate passive components. THIEAUDIO also puts a lot of emphasis on manufacturing consistency, with each unit going through multiple inspection stages that include driver pairing, assembly, shell processing, final assembly, and packaging.
Physically, the shell is carved from solid aluminum blocks, hand-finished, and anodized for a more durable and professional look. It gives the HYPE 4 MKII a more premium feel than many resin-based alternatives while keeping the construction practical for long-term daily use.
Premium Modular Cable
The HYPE 4 MKII includes THIEAUDIO’s new performance cable, made with 6N ultra-pure monocrystalline copper. The thick 4-core design feels substantial in hand and is built to deliver a clean, natural signal. With its modular plug system, you can easily switch between 4.4 mm balanced and 3.5 mm unbalanced plugs for compatibility with a wide range of devices.
Who the THIEAUDIO HYPE 4 MKII Is For
The HYPE 4 MKII is a strong fit for listeners who want a hybrid IEM with real sub-bass authority, clean mids, and a more refined overall tuning than many V-shaped alternatives. It makes sense for buyers who want a fun low end without giving up tonal balance, detail retrieval, or soundstage performance.
It is also a compelling option for anyone considering a move up from the original HYPE 4 and looking for something that feels more mature in both engineering and execution.
