Rainier, Olympia and Moonstone were created to build upon the long established strengths of the Oyster line. Their redesign focuses on how resonance moves around the cartridge body and how to dissipate it before it affects the generator. This gives the new models an ease and transparency that enhances natural harmonics, adds realism to attack and decay and presents music against a quieter background that is usually associated with moving coil designs.

Flexible upgrade path

All styli for Rainier, Olympia and Moonstone fit the same cartridge body. This means you can start with Rainier and change to an Olympia or Moonstone stylus later for a clear performance upgrade without buying a new cartridge. It also makes it easy to keep a spare stylus on hand or maintain a secondary stylus for older or well loved records.

Hand crafted in Japan

Every Sumiko cartridge is hand assembled in Yokohama by trained technicians. Materials are selected through listening tests, each model is tuned until it meets its intended character and every unit is built with careful attention to detail. The result is a cartridge that performs reliably and brings a consistent musical signature to a wide range of tonearms.
