The Status Audio Pro X True Wireless - GoldenSound Edition is a limited-edition true wireless IEM tuned closer to a real human hearing response than almost any in-ear monitor before it, wired or wireless. It's a collaboration between Status Audio and Cameron Oatley, better known as GoldenSound of The HEADPHONE Show, and it exists to answer one question: what happens when a measurement-first reviewer gets to tune the earbud instead of just reviewing it?
Built on Status Audio's flagship triple-driver Pro X platform, its sound was developed through one of the most rigorous measurement programs ever applied to a wireless earphone: full-sphere HRTF research at Imperial College London, the Brüel & Kjær 5128, and re-derived listener preference targets. The goal was never "great for earbuds." It was sound your brain accepts as real.
Tuned by the reviewer who measures everything
Cameron Oatley built the GoldenSound name on a simple discipline: measure first, listen hard, and only trust the two where they agree. He's spent years applying that standard to headphones, IEMs, DACs, and amplifiers at every price, and calling out the products that don't hold up.
This collaboration works because it isn't a celebrity signature printed on a charging case. Cameron developed the tuning, ran the measurements, re-derived the targets, and verified the result with his own ears. Literally. His personal hearing response was measured as part of the research program.
What the GoldenSound Edition sounds like
Real. Voices and instruments carry their true timbre, reading as present in the room rather than reproduced in your ears. The 12mm dynamic driver gives bass genuine weight and punch that never bleeds into the midrange, while two Knowles balanced armatures per earbud keep vocals grounded and fine detail effortless, with no treble spotlight forcing "detail" onto every track.
Accurate doesn't mean sterile. The presentation stays spacious, musical, and alive: engaging on the first song, and still easy on your ears eight hours later. Nothing hyped, nothing fatiguing.
Tuned around how ears actually hear
Here's the problem almost nobody in the industry solves: the ear itself is part of the instrument. Your outer ear and ear canal reshape every sound before it reaches your eardrum, and every measurement rig does the same thing through its own simulated ears. That means a frequency-response graph is always two things blended together: the earphone, and the ears that measured it. Tune to the raw graph, and you've tuned the wrong system.
So this program began by separating the two. Working with the Turret Lab at Imperial College London, an HRTF measurement sphere with hundreds of loudspeaker positions surrounding the head, the team captured full-sphere head-related transfer function data for the measurement fixtures themselves, including the Brüel & Kjær 5128, the most anatomically accurate ear simulator in the industry, and for Cameron's own ears. From that data comes the rig's diffuse-field HRTF: a precise fingerprint of how its ears color neutral sound. Subtract that fingerprint, and what remains is what the earbud is actually doing, a reference you can genuinely tune against.
Neutral was the starting line, not the finish. Research from Floyd Toole and Harman International shows listeners don't strictly prefer neutral, so Cameron re-examined the underlying preference data to define tighter, more accurate preference bounds. The final tuning sits inside them: anchored to what's real, adjusted only where listeners demonstrably prefer it, and verified with real listeners before sign-off.
Measured against the best, wireless and wired
Measured on the B&K 5128, Apple's AirPods Pro 3 swing well outside those preference bounds at both ends of the frequency range. The Pro X GoldenSound Edition holds its line across the spectrum.
The more telling comparison is wired. Compensated the same way, the GoldenSound Edition tracks the kind of reference target the most acclaimed wired IEMs are judged against, without the cable. That's the point of this product: not "impressive for a wireless earbud," but a reference-grade IEM that happens to be truly wireless.
A flagship platform underneath
Each earbud pairs a 12mm dynamic driver with two Knowles balanced armatures: the dynamic driver moves the air that sub-bass demands, while the armatures handle midrange and treble with speed and separation. It's the same hybrid architecture behind many of the best wired IEMs, miniaturized into a true wireless shell.
Bluetooth 5.3 carries SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3, with LDAC streaming up to 24-bit/96kHz at bitrates up to 990kbps on compatible Android devices. The platform is Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified by the Japan Audio Society. Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast support keep the Pro X ready for the next generation of wireless audio, and multipoint holds a connection to two devices at once, with Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for instant setup.
Hybrid active noise cancellation delivers up to 52dB of noise reduction for flights, commutes, and open offices, with an adjustable Transparency Mode when you need the world back. For calls, six beamforming microphones, three per earbud, feed Voiceloom AI speech enhancement, which separates your voice from the noise around you, while sidetone plays a touch of your own voice back so you stop shouting into meetings.
The Status Hub app for iOS and Android covers the essentials without the clutter: listening modes, remappable controls, battery status, and find-my-earbuds tracking with sound alerts. These sound incredible. The fit is super comfortable. They are the perfect true wireless IEMs!

Only had these earbuds for a short time but they’ve made a big impression. They are the most comfortable set I’ve used barely edging out the older Sonys I’ve had. The sound is where these things set a new bar. I mean these are as good if not better than my best wired iems. The fidelity, bass response, and clarity is insane. The app used for tuning is well designed and a total necessity. I’ve had no connection issues and the battery life seems quite solid. I hope these last a very long time because I don’t want to be without them. I would buy these again for sure.
These buds are outstanding. I usually don't like standard silicone tips, but these fit very well and I don't get irritation from them. The sound in top knotch. I like being able to change the sound stage within the app for comparison. ANC is very good as well with the stock ear tips. These will be my new favorites going forward.
The Status Pro x Golden Sound buds are great! I find them more comfortable than my APP3 and more secure in my ears than my APP2. Sound wise they are definitely bass heavy but the timbre is still great to my ears and the treble is not overdone! The ANC is satisfactory and the call quality works well, though the mics aren't quite as good as my APP3. The app works well on iPhone. All in all, a great product!
These have quickly become my favorite TWS earbuds. The GoldenSound tuning is remarkably well matched to my preferences: smooth and focused, with substantial bass and a satisfying mid-bass thump, natural-sounding vocals, and upper mids that never become fatiguing. There is plenty of detail and treble energy, but the tuning avoids the overly aggressive 2–4 kHz presentation that can make otherwise excellent headphones difficult for me to enjoy. Beyond the tuning, they're simply fun to listen to. The bass has real weight without overwhelming the rest of the music, vocals remain clear, and there's enough sparkle and detail to keep things lively. I've tried the other included tuning presets, but I keep coming right back to GoldenSound's. For my tastes, he absolutely nailed this one. These are the best TWS earbuds I've owned so far.

Outstanding tuning job by GoldenSound. The Status Pro X were great before, but this makes them amazing. Only issue is that the three tip sizes supplied are inadequate, but that was true for the regular edition, too.
Summary: great sound, well designed case, 8-band equalizer, well thought-out control scheme, touch controls a little flakey Very much in love with the sound signature, especially the default Goldensound tuning. The bass presents as extended, but sill balanced well (the most noticeable aspect of the GS tuning is how well the bass comes across). Instrument separation very good with a cohesive and detailed presentation. Soundstage more intimate than wide. Overall, it's the best TWS sound quality I have heard so far. However, I should note that the GS tuning I favor is the only one of the tunings offered that you cannot customize. That's a pity as I would like to start with that tuning and tweak the mids a bit; it's possible that the tuning was baked in as a parametric formula that is not achievable through a simple 8-band interface. The other tunings are fully customizable with the 8-band equalizer. The ANC is excellent and outperforms the my Airpods Pro (3rd gen). However, the transparency mode is just a wee bit harsh. Luckily there are several levels that can be set and I'm satisfied with the transparency mode in the Low setting. Note: the transparency level must be set from within the Status Hub app. The case for the Status Pro X is excellent. It is designed to be stood vertically with a flat base that allows to the case to stand regardless of whether the lid is open or closed. You can charge it by standing it in this position over a Qi wireless charger or the USB-C port (which again is thoughtfully positioned so that it does not interfere with the vertical orientation of the case). The charge indicator light is also highly visible when the case is in this vertical orientation and viewable from a wide range of angles, unlike my Airpods case. My only nitpick is that you have to be precise with how you orient the earbuds when you insert them into the case. With the curved design of the Airpods, they will rotate themselves into the correct orientation if they are placed into the case slightly out of alignment. The Status Pro X, however, must be more precisely aligned. I'm confident muscle-memory will eventually assert itself, but right now I often fumble a bit placing them within the case. The earbuds have both a physical button (at the top of each stem) and touchpads on the sides. I like the design of the control scheme, particularly how they use L/R controls to differentiate the controls. For example, rather than rely on double- and triple-click to differentiate between next/prev track they use double-click on left earbud or right earbud. The assignment of functions to the touch controls can be set from the Status Hub app, but oddly the assignment of functions to the physical buttons cannot be changed. That said, I found the touch controls a bit laggy (with regards to the double-click next/prev track) and outright flakey for setting volume (press and hold on the right/left earbuds for volume down/up, respectively). I've completely given up on using the touch controls for volume and use the playback device volume controls directly. In summary, I would give the sound quality 5 stars relative to this class of device, but only 3 stars for the utility of the controls. I split the difference for an overall score of 4 stars.

These are really nice, sound is especially good for Bluetooth. Goldensound did an exceptional job tuning them. I have already recommended them to my friends.
Clean sound signature. Enjoyable for hours on end.
It is everything that is advertised about them and more. For once the hype is real and not just hype. Amazing sound, deep subbass, but controlled not overwhelming the mid bass, mids or treble which are rich, detailed and accurate in their own right. Punches well above their weight in all areas, autophile quality but fun. Has handled all of my varied genres. But, like all wireless buds you don't get a ton of play time per play, 5 to 6 hrs. Hey, nothing's perfect; however, these are damn near perfect. The price to performance ratio, is a steal, so take advantage, buy and enjoy!
I am afraid that I have only used these IEM'S for a cursory period of time so far, in the immediate, I can tell you that they sound good. I'm able to adjust them so that the sound is pleasing to me. Maybe the best wireless IEM'S that I have heard personally so far, I can't help but consider at this date.I am still going to enjoy corded IEM'S over wireless
I am pleasantly surprised and pleased by these. I've been through many mainstream wireless earbuds over the years (Apple, Sony, B&W, Sennheiser, etc.) , and while some are good for phone calls or have great ANC for watching a movie on a plane (e.g. iPods Pro 3), NONE of them have delivered a music experience that I was happy with. With these and the GoldenSound profile, it's the first time I've had this level of satisfaction in a wireless. Honestly, I prefer these over many over-ear wireless options as well...including my Focal Bathys. My only recommendation is to make sure you've got the right ear tip for your anatomy. When I first tried them, I thought they were really dark, but then I went down a size in ear tip and they came to life. They aren't analytical enough for music production or mixing (I've got many wired options for that), but for travel and convenience, I am totally satisfied. I have not taken them on a plane yet, but will in a couple weeks. I am eager to see how the ANC works in that situation (definitely not as strong as the mainstream brands from what I've tried so far). But on the whole, highly recommended.
The sound is remarkable…every nuance in speech and instruments…and the app enhances the musical intimacy as well as vocals (when needed) in a subtle way. Also a pleasure to see it link to Bluetooth, whether on iOS or Android, without any of the difficulties so often encountered with other IEMs and headphones. A winner!
I have tried numerous other wireless IEM's and most sounded muddy, or weak, or just hard to connect and stay that way. Everyone else promises "high fidelity", these deliver! I was shocked at the clarity, separation, imaging, dynamics, holographic sound stage, and air and realism! The highs sparkle with out sibilance, the mid range is not hollow or lacking, male and female vocals sound correct, and when called upon the mid-bass and sub-bass come on with a thump with clarity not muddiness and booming! Quite a feat in any musical reproduction at any price! Oh, also the macro and micro details are there and pop out as the recording calls for. I even heard a recording artifact from an old recording that was remastered, it surprised me as a wired set I had just listened to did not! Also on congested tracks, like classical, rock, jazz, and metal these excel! These come very close to some very expensive wired IEM's I own, they connect to a dap with ease, sound marvelous, and make me want to keep on listening, something lesser wireless just can't replicate! The app on Play Store makes it easy to tailor the sound to your likings and includes the anc and other items to enhance your listening pleasure. My search for the best near perfect wireless IEM has now ceased. I just hope this company will keep improving as they are really on to something! Two years of work well executed and very rewarding for the creator!
