Description

SMSL SP400 THX AAA Headphone Amplifier

The SMSL SP400 takes everything that made the SP200 a benchmark desktop amplifier and refines it with modern usability and system flexibility. Retaining the acclaimed THX AAA-888 amplifier topology, the SP400 delivers massive power, vanishingly low distortion, and an exceptionally quiet background, now paired with a display, remote control, and balanced preamp output.

A Classic Design, Thoughtfully Updated

The core of the SP400 remains the THX AAA-888 amplifier circuit, known for its feed-forward error correction that actively removes distortion before it reaches your headphones. What has changed is the experience. A bright 1.9 inch LCD display provides clear visual feedback, a full-function remote adds convenience, and the chassis matches the SMSL M400 DAC for clean stacking and a unified desktop system.

Power for Virtually Any Headphone

With up to 12 watts into 16 ohms and 6 watts into 32 ohms from the balanced output, the SP400 has the headroom to drive nearly any dynamic or planar magnetic headphone. A three-position gain switch allows fine tuning for sensitive IEMs or demanding full-size headphones, adding up to six decibels of extra output when needed.

THX AAA-888 Clarity

The THX AAA-888 design uses a feed-forward error correction architecture that measures distortion early in the signal path and corrects it downstream. The result is an amplifier that delivers extreme transparency, speed, and control without adding coloration or grain.

Pitch-Black Background

With a signal-to-noise ratio of 133dB and output noise of just 1.9 microvolts, the SP400 remains silent even with highly sensitive headphones. Music emerges from a black background with no hiss, hum, or unwanted artifacts.

Desktop Friendly Form Factor

Despite its output capability, the SP400 maintains a compact footprint that fits easily on most desks. Designed to stack seamlessly with the SMSL M400 DAC, the combination creates a powerful yet space-efficient desktop reference system.
