Description

Open-box items in C condition are open box items that are not in like-new condition. They may show signs of wear, have packaging that is imperfect and be missing accessories. Clearance items are sold as is without a warranty guarantee and no returns.

The Pro-Ject X2 B brings balanced phono connectivity to a turntable built for serious vinyl playback. It pairs a 9-inch carbon-aluminum tonearm, a 2kg acrylic platter, electronic speed control, and an Ortofon Quintet Red moving-coil cartridge with Pro-Ject’s True Balanced connection system.

Used with a compatible balanced phono stage and the appropriate mini XLR cable, the X2 B can preserve the cartridge’s balanced signal from the tonearm through to the phono preamplifier. That gives the system greater resistance to electrical interference, along with lower noise and improved dynamic range. RCA connectivity remains available for conventional phono systems, so the X2 B can fit into an existing setup and support a balanced upgrade later.

True Balanced Phono Connectivity

A phono cartridge produces an extremely low-level signal, which must be amplified significantly before it reaches a line-level input. Any noise picked up between the turntable and phono preamp can become more noticeable once that signal is amplified.

The X2 B provides both RCA and mini XLR outputs. Its mini XLR connection allows the left and right cartridge channels to remain balanced when the turntable is paired with a compatible cable and balanced phono stage, such as the Pro-Ject Phono Box S3 B or Phono Box DS3 B. A balanced connection can reject noise that enters both signal conductors, helping preserve quiet details and dynamic contrasts in electrically busy listening environments.

The turntable includes Pro-Ject’s semi-balanced Connect it E Phono RCA cable for standard systems. A fully balanced mini XLR phono cable is sold separately.

Ortofon Quintet Red Moving-Coil Cartridge

The X2 B arrives with an Ortofon Quintet Red moving-coil cartridge installed and factory aligned. Its open, dynamic presentation and slightly warm tonal balance make it a strong match for the X2 B’s tonearm and acrylic platter.

The moving-coil design also allows the X2 B to take full advantage of Pro-Ject’s True Balanced signal path when used with a compatible balanced phono stage. With the cartridge already mounted and aligned, the turntable is ready for final setup and tracking-force adjustment out of the box.

9-Inch Carbon-Aluminum Tonearm

The one-piece 9-inch tonearm uses a carbon-aluminum sandwich construction. Carbon fiber contributes rigidity and low mass, while the aluminum layer improves internal damping. The tube’s wider diameter and 13.5g effective mass make it well suited to the included moving-coil cartridge and other lower-compliance designs.

There is no separate headshell joint to introduce additional vibration into the arm tube. Azimuth and vertical tracking angle are both adjustable, giving experienced owners the flexibility to fine-tune cartridge alignment or install a different cartridge later. A TPE-damped counterweight helps control resonance at the rear of the arm.

Heavy Acrylic Platter and Precision Belt Drive

The 30mm-thick acrylic platter weighs 2kg, creating a stable platform for the record and adding rotational mass to the belt-drive system. Acrylic also allows records to be placed directly on the platter, although a felt mat is included for listeners who prefer to use one.

A stainless-steel and brass main bearing supports smooth platter rotation, while an electronically controlled DC/AC generator supplies clean, stable power to the motor. Speeds of 33, 45, and 78 RPM can be selected electronically with the push of a button, so there is no need to move the drive belt when changing record formats.

Decoupled Motor and Resonance-Controlled Chassis

The motor assembly is suspended from the main plinth using a precision-tuned TPE belt. This separates the motor chassis from the turntable body and reduces the transfer of mechanical vibration into the platter, tonearm, and cartridge.

Three height-adjustable aluminum feet provide a stable, level foundation. Their damped construction also helps isolate the X2 B from floor vibration and acoustic feedback, particularly when the turntable is installed near loudspeakers.

Made in Europe

The X2 B is manufactured in Europe by Pro-Ject, drawing on the company’s decades of turntable production experience. Its substantial 10kg construction, adjustable tonearm, heavy acrylic platter, and balanced-ready signal path give it room to grow with the rest of a high-performance vinyl system.

High-gloss, satin, and real-wood finish options allow the X2 B to suit a range of listening rooms and equipment systems.
