Pro-Ject X1 B True Balanced Turntable - Open Box - Clearance
Description
Open-box items in C condition are open box items that are not in like-new condition. They may show signs of wear, have packaging that is imperfect and be missing accessories. Clearance items are sold as is without a warranty guarantee and no returns.
The Pro-Ject X1 B is a substantial belt-drive turntable built around careful vibration control, precise mechanical construction, and a signal path ready for Pro-Ject’s True Balanced phono system. Its heavy acrylic platter, one-piece carbon-aluminum tonearm, isolated motor, and preinstalled moving-magnet cartridge make it a strong foundation for a dedicated vinyl setup.
Alongside its conventional RCA connection, the X1 B includes a 5-pin mini-XLR output for use with a compatible Pro-Ject True Balanced cable and balanced phono preamplifier. This gives owners a straightforward path toward lower noise and better protection from electrical interference while preserving compatibility with standard phono systems.
True Balanced Phono Connectivity
A phono cartridge produces a very low-level electrical signal that must be heavily amplified by the phono stage. Noise picked up between the turntable and preamplifier can become much more noticeable after that amplification.
Balanced connections carry the positive and negative sides of the cartridge signal separately, allowing a compatible phono stage to reject noise introduced along the cable. The X1 B supports this connection through its 5-pin mini-XLR output when paired with the appropriate Pro-Ject True Balanced cable and phono preamp.
Standard RCA outputs are also included, allowing the X1 B to connect to conventional phono stages. The supplied Connect it E phono cable supports an immediate RCA setup, while the balanced connection can be added as the rest of the system develops.
Factory-Installed Moving-Magnet Cartridge
The X1 B arrives with a Pro-Ject moving-magnet cartridge installed and aligned. Its elliptical stylus is suited to everyday record playback, with a full-range presentation designed to preserve detail, body, and stereo separation across a wide range of recordings.
The cartridge can be replaced as the system evolves. Adjustable azimuth, vertical tracking angle, and tracking force allow the tonearm to accommodate different cartridge and stylus combinations.
One-Piece Carbon-Aluminum Tonearm
The 8.6-inch tonearm combines carbon fiber and aluminum in a single tube and headshell structure. Carbon fiber provides rigidity and keeps weight under control, while the aluminum layer adds internal damping.
Removing the detachable headshell joint reduces one potential source of resonance and unwanted movement. A four-pin cardan bearing system allows the arm to move with low friction while keeping its center of gravity stable above the stylus.
The counterweight is damped and decoupled from the tonearm with TPE material. Azimuth and vertical tracking angle can both be adjusted, giving experienced listeners more control when changing cartridges, platter mats, or setup geometry.
Heavy Acrylic Platter and Precision Bearing
The 20mm acrylic platter weighs approximately 3.3 pounds, providing useful rotational mass and a stable surface beneath the record. Acrylic is naturally resistant to ringing and helps control resonance where the record, platter, and stylus meet.
The platter rests on a precision sub-platter and bearing assembly built from stainless steel, soft brass, and low-friction components. Tight manufacturing tolerances help reduce rumble and support smooth, consistent rotation.
Isolated Motor with Three-Speed Playback
The X1 B’s motor is mechanically decoupled from the main MDF plinth. Its suspended motor chassis and TPE isolation system reduce the amount of motor vibration that can travel into the platter, tonearm, and cartridge.
An electronically controlled DC/AC generator supplies stable power to the motor. The preinstalled flat belt supports electronic switching between 33 and 45 RPM, while the included round belt allows playback of 78 RPM records.
A cartridge and stylus designed specifically for shellac records should be used when playing older 78 RPM discs.
Resonance-Controlled Plinth and Adjustable Feet
The CNC-machined MDF plinth provides a dense, stable base for the motor, bearing, platter, and tonearm. Its substantial construction helps limit vibration without adding unnecessary mechanical complexity.
Three damped aluminum feet can be adjusted individually to level the turntable. Their isolation helps reduce vibration entering through the supporting furniture or floor, particularly when the turntable is positioned near loudspeakers.
