Driver type
More information
Speakers and headphones use a device called a 'driver' to create sound. Different types of drivers have different strengths and weaknesses, but can all produce great sound. Common varieties include dynamic, planar magnetic, and electrostatic.

Description
The Meze Audio ARTA is a new flagship open-back planar magnetic headphone created in collaboration with Rinaro Isodynamics. Built around the new MZ5 HΩ high-impedance Isodynamic® Hybrid Array driver, ARTA is designed for listeners who want a more natural, speaker-like presentation from a reference headphone without losing the texture, intimacy, and detail that make headphone listening so compelling.
ARTA sits at the top of Meze Audio’s headphone lineup as both a technical statement and a piece of functional art. It combines Rinaro’s advanced planar magnetic driver engineering with Meze’s sculptural design language, premium materials, and fully serviceable modular construction. The result is a headphone built for serious listening today, and for long-term ownership well beyond the typical product cycle.
A New High-Impedance Planar Driver
The defining feature of ARTA is its MZ5 HΩ driver, a new high-impedance Isodynamic Hybrid Array design developed by Rinaro. With an average impedance of 225Ω, ARTA takes a different approach from many modern planar magnetic headphones. Its high-voltage, low-current architecture is designed to improve signal stability, control, and linearity while keeping distortion exceptionally low.
For the listener, that means ARTA is not chasing loudness or instant impact. It is built for refinement, resolution, and control. Paired with a capable amplifier, ARTA delivers a sound that feels composed and effortless, with fine detail, realistic dynamics, and a sense of scale that is rare even among high-end headphones.
Warm-Neutral, Spacious, and Natural
ARTA is tuned with a warm-neutral balance that prioritizes natural timbre and believable musical space. Rather than pushing detail forward or placing every element unnaturally close, ARTA gives recordings room to breathe. Instruments sit in a large, clearly defined soundstage with depth, separation, and a more speaker-like sense of distance.
That spaciousness is matched by a tonal balance that remains grounded and listenable. Bass reaches deep without dominating the presentation, mids carry texture and body, and treble extends cleanly without turning sharp. ARTA is designed to reveal what is in a recording while keeping the music emotionally intact.
Engineered for a Cleaner Acoustic Path
Meze and Rinaro designed ARTA’s acoustic structure to reduce unwanted reflections and preserve openness. The grille system uses precisely angled acoustic blades that help control internal soundwave reflections before they interfere with the driver’s output.
This contributes to ARTA’s clean transient response, precise imaging, and expansive presentation. The headphone sounds open and highly resolved, but not artificially etched. Notes have space around them, imaging feels stable, and the overall presentation stays coherent from the lowest bass through the upper treble.
Designed as Functional Art
ARTA’s design language blends futuristic organic forms with Art Nouveau influence, giving it a visual identity that feels unmistakably Meze. Flowing metal lines, carbon fiber elements, and premium leather surfaces come together in a headphone that looks sculptural without sacrificing comfort or structural purpose.
At 495g, ARTA is built with serious materials, but the ergonomic design keeps long listening in mind. The suspension system, earcup structure, and contact points are all designed to distribute weight comfortably, making ARTA feel like a flagship meant to be used, not just displayed.
Built for Long-Term Ownership
Like Meze’s best-known flagship designs, ARTA is fully serviceable and modular. Earpads, headband parts, drivers, earcups, and structural components are designed to be disassembled, serviced, and replaced when needed. That matters at this level. A true flagship headphone should not feel disposable.
ARTA is hand-assembled in Baia Mare, Romania, with the level of care and mechanical precision expected from Meze Audio. It is built as a long-term reference piece for a serious headphone system, and as an object that can be maintained over time rather than replaced when one part wears out.
Created with Rinaro Isodynamics
ARTA continues Meze Audio’s long-running collaboration with Rinaro Isodynamics, the engineering partner behind some of Meze’s most celebrated planar magnetic headphones. With ARTA, that partnership reaches a new level through the MZ5 HΩ driver, a vast open-back acoustic design, and a presentation built around realism rather than spectacle.
This is Meze’s most ambitious expression of the flagship planar headphone idea: technically advanced, visually distinctive, deeply serviceable, and tuned for listeners who want scale, detail, and natural warmth in one complete design.
