The Astell and Kern Zero 1 is a hybrid in ear monitor designed for listeners who want high resolution clarity, fast transients, and a refined presentation in a compact form. Each earpiece uses four drivers working together in a 3D printed acoustic chamber. The driver array includes a micro rectangular planar dynamic driver, two balanced armature drivers, and a 5.6 mm dynamic driver, giving the Zero 1 both speed and tonal weight.
The metal housings are CNC machined for precision and durability. Astell and Kern includes a pure silver coated OFC cable with MMCX connectors and a right angled 3.5 mm plug. Five pairs of silicone tips, one pair of foam tips, and a travel case round out the package. The Zero 1 is handcrafted in Japan and built for long term use.
Hybrid multi driver design
The Zero 1 uses three different driver technologies in one earpiece. The micro rectangular planar driver provides speed and accuracy, the balanced armatures add midrange detail, and the 5.6 mm dynamic driver delivers low frequency body. These drivers sit in a custom 3D printed acoustic chamber designed to manage phase, crossover behavior, and driver interaction.
Acoustic engineering and build
Astell and Kern uses a precision machined metal housing to reduce unwanted resonance and improve consistency between units. The interior chamber is formed with a 3D printing process that shapes airflow paths and crossover zones for improved driver control. The crossover network is tuned to blend the four drivers into a coherent presentation across the entire frequency range.
Cable and comfort
The included cable is a high purity silver coated OFC design with MMCX connectors and a right angled 3.5 mm plug. The Y type cable is detachable for easy replacement or upgrades. Included silicone and foam eartips let you achieve a secure seal and comfortable fit.
